Johan (John) Colenbrander

(1886-1967)

Emigrated to the USA and arrived with the ss Amsterdam on 28.04.1904 at Ellis Island, New York. Went to live with his uncle Johan Sandbulte in Sioux Center (IA) who also paid his voyage. On arrival his capital was $ 3.
On the ss Rijndam arrived on 04.12.1916 at Ellis Island Wilhelm Balke, age 24, father Julius Balke. On the ship’s manifest he is named as the ‘future brother in law of Johan Colenbrander’. In the company of Wilhelm traveled Hermina Anna (real name Harmina Geertruida) Colenbrander, age 31, born in Varsseveld and living in Winterswijk, named as sister of Johan. She married Friedrich Wilhelm Balke on 20.12.1917.
